The Trust’s ambition is for the Old Sawmills to be home to a diverse range of artists working in all media - a centre of creative excellence and visitor destination for the contemporary art practitioner and collector alike.
A grade II listed former watermill next to the River Bray, it has been renovated and equipped to a very high standard and is meticulously maintained, benefiting from wood burning stoves, double glazing and fully insulated to keep warm and dry in winter and comfortably cool in the summer.
For 2011 we have created additional studio space which has enabled us to substantially reduce the individual cost of each.
The top floor is dedicated to the fine and applied arts and divided into 4 separate studio/workshop areas of approx 6.5m x 3.5m x 6m (250 sq ft) each. A fantastic loft type space with exposed beans to the rafters, each studio enjoys south and north facing views over the surrounding countryside plus east/west light from large gable end windows. Each studio has multiple power sockets, individually switched overhead lighting, wooden flooring and share a double sink and drainer to one end and a very large (25 kw) wood burner to the other. There is also a dust/vapour air filtration/circulation system that serves the entire floor.
On the ground floor, either side of thegallery@360°, there are two separate studio/workshops of approx 375 sq ft and 275 sq ft respectively. The former again enjoys south and north facing views, double doors to rear, painted screed floor, single drainer sink and a 3 phase power supply, the later has a very large north facing skylight and window to the south, wood burning stove and wooden floor.
We aim to be flexible as to how all these spaces are used whether occupied by a single artist/maker or if more economical shared to suit individual budgets and needs.
Costs are £225 pm for each of the top floor studios. £250 pm for the smaller ground floor, and £325 for the large, all rates are fully inclusive to include 24/7 access, all utilities, telephone, wireless broadband, business rates and parking.
