Frequently Asked Questions

Home Members Partners Location FAQ's

How much does membership cost?

£350 per person per month for furniture designer/makers. £250 per month for other applied artists.

What is included in the price?

Rent, business rates, heat, light, power, water, telephone line rental (shared line), wireless broadband, insurance and maintenance and use of all the Mill's facilities including machine room, office/meeting room, kitchen and gallery.

What's not included?

Insurance specific to your business/requirements, telephone calls, food and beverages.

Is anything else expected of me?

Yes, your help to keep the premises and equipment clean, tidy and well maintained.

But what about my contribution to the Trust's training programmes and other social initiatives?

It is not compulsory; it is up to you. Of course we hope everyone who joins us will eventually want to, as they see the benefits they and their business will gain in return, but we accept that you may feel that running your own business is more than enough to worry about for the time being. We are here to help, not hinder you in that endeavour. See next FAQ.

How does the shared ownership work?

Simple. We want to encourage our members to give something back to the community. We are realistic though, we don't expect you to do it for nothing so to encourage and reward you for your contribution we are offering shares in 360°. But unlike other share option schemes you contribute with your time not your cash.

What are the benefits of being a shareholder?

You get the assistance of a paid apprentice in your business. You will get to share in the profits that the Trust and its subsidiary businesses generate. You get to contribute to the management and direction of the business.

Are the shares worth anything?

Yes, their value in the first instance is under written by the capital assets of the company. As the business and profitability grows the value of your shares may also appreciate.

Can I sell my shares?

Yes, to the Trust or another shareholder. Shares however cannot be sold to non-members.

Is there a limit to the number of people that the Old Sawmill will accommodate?

Yes. We do not want to over-crowd our facilities, this leads to poor utilization of space and equipment and affects productivity. We have planned for a maximum of 4 furniture design/makers and 2 applied artists working in another medium - ceramics, glass, jewellery, metal, wood etc.

How do I join?

Call Jonathan Kiff on 01598 760658 and arrange to see the Old Sawmill and our facilities. As we are just opening we currently have vacancies for 2 furniture designer/makers and 2 ceramicists, glassmakers, jewellery designer/makers or other applied artists.
